Life Cell Director Scott Smiles, his friend Rick Matthews and their 11yo sons, survived a real life accident at sea,
inspiring them to create a device that redefines how safety equipment is stored and used on boats to improve survival rates.
Life Cell is now fully endorsed by the very people that saved their lives, the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter.
The Life Cell will reduce the number of people that tragically lose their life in boating incidents.
The full story
In December 2011 Scott Smiles, Rick Matthews and their two 11yo sons were stranded at sea after their boat sank suddenly and without warning 10 km off the coast of Sydney. With only seconds to grab essential safety equipment they quickly found themselves clinging to an esky in the open sea and in a catastrophic situation.
Luckily they survived……
Time for change
Life Cell’s goal is to introduce a new standard in boating safety. Life Cell can help to avoid a life threatening situation in the event of an emergency, by ensuring that safety equipment is in one place and ready to go. Stored safely in a buoyant device rather than misplaced under a seat, in a gunwale or at the back of a cupboard.
